As a cabin guest of Wapiti Meadow Ranch, you'll find miles upon miles of forest trails winding their way through the surrounding mountains. From gentle to challenging, our "mountain neighbors" offer every level of hiking adventure. We also have many other guest ranch activities of which you can take advantage, which are detailed below.
Horseback Trail Riding & Mountain Biking
Guests with their own horses and mules can bring them to our lush pastures and corrals. You’ll enjoy the mountain trails surrounding the ranch that can lead deep into the wilderness. The bike trails and old mining and logging roads that spider web the Johnson Creek Valley offer a variety of terrain and challenge for mountain bikers. Wonderfully remote abandoned logging roads, and wagon tracks provide for moderate to strenuous trails.
Wild Salmon & Trout Watching
Each year (around mid-July), adult salmon that are colored with a brilliant spawning-orange return to the Johnson Creek to spawning beds at the headwaters of the Salmon River. These beds run through Wapiti Meadow. For 6 to 8 weeks, you can witness their ritualistic mating dance over the gravels that line the stream.
Additional Activities
Guests can also make use of our volleyball court or have some friendly competition at one of our horseshoe pits. In addition, we have antique croquet sets available for you to enjoy some time with your friends, family, or colleagues. Another fun and entertaining activity is our "bull" head roping dummy for individuals who want to learn to or practice their roping skills.
A full library of books is also available. Our library has local and western lore, a collection of English romance novels, and adventure and mystery books that are well suited for a leisurely night.
Outside the lodge, a fire pit can be lit for evening campfires along the stream, which meanders through our yard. In the evening, our pond and Johnson Creek are just a few steps from your cabin door.
